Yusuf Tekin, a worker at the municipal concrete production plant in Eskişehir was injured during loading a truck when the pavement stones fell on his left leg. He was taken to the State Hospital.
In the Sincan town of Ankara province, due to a machinist pressing the wrong button, a worker was injured and another worker lost his life. The machinist was arrested.
Occupational hazards claimed 858 lives in 2005
Last year 858 workers lost their lives in occupational accidents. According to the information provided by the Work and Social Security Department, there were 4,686 work accidents. The distribution of accidents by location was 901 in Istanbul, 615 in Ankara, 394 in Izmir, 357 in Tekirdağ, 220 in Bursa, 120 in Kırklareli, 115 in Kayseri, 112 in Konya, and 103 in Manisa. 4,765 men and 180 women were affected from the occupational accidents last year.
