Freedom and Solidarity Party (FSP) held a rally in Istanbul to protest the government’s proposed health plan and demand equal and free healthcare for every one carrying a Turkish birth certificate.
The FSP members marched to the Okmeydanı Hospital and Research Center chanting slogans – “AKP (the ruling party) is hazardous to your health”, “Free education Free Healthcare!”- and read a press release there.
The leader of the party’s Istanbul Branch, Sinan Tutal said, “The FSP government wants the Parliament to approve the Social Security and General Health Insurance law which aims to privatize and commercialize all health services, as directed by IMF. This draft law tells us, “Live if you have money, otherwise die.” Healthcare from birth to death is a human right. Benefiting from equal, free and adequate health care is also a citizenship right. This draft law which takes away our right to social security and healthcare and condemns us to insecurity and misery should be withdrawn.”
Meanwhile FSP, Izmir Branch held another rally the Konak Square in Izmir on February 4 and issued a press statement. The statement said the right to free education and healthcare was the basic right of all citizens and pointed out that the AKP government, under the directions of IMF, was taking back all the earned rights of the people.
The people attending the meeting shouted, “Free Education, Free Healthcare,” and, “Health is a Right, It Can’t Be a Commodity!”
