According to a report prepared by the Confederation of The Public Workers Union (KESK), approximately 520 union public workers were exiled to some other parts of the country last year. In the report, approximately 500,000 public workers who were denied the right to union membership or forming unions have been deprived of their rights to organize.
KESK prepared a report called “The Rights and Freedoms of Unionizing in Turkey”. In the report, it was specified that the restrictions and prohibitions on exercising the rights and freedoms still existed. The report stated, “With the 1980 military coup, a model of a society with no unions was intended to be established and unions were subjected to serious attacks. Turkey has received serious criticisms internationally from ILO concerning the restrictions and prohibitions on the right to unionize. At the same time, protecting the rights and ensuring the freedom of the right to organize, some regulations around the principles of the EU have been discussed but have never been implemented.” The Report pointed out that the current collective bargaining system violates the ILO agreement and the European Social Charter requirements.
No Security
In this report, it was said that a large number of members and representatives of the public unions affiliated with KESK have been forced to relocate or fined because of their union membership. It was also stated that Municipalities had been pressured not to carry out the “collective bargaining agreements” made with All Municipalities and Local Administrative Services Workers’ Union in the 130 municipalities.
