Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan came to Beykoz to give support to his party’s local congress there. For days, banners read “Entire People of Beykoz are Welcome” calling the people to participate in the ruling party’s town hall congress.
The members of the Peoples Houses Association in Beykoz heeded the call and organized to go to the meeting to tell that they did not want “Those who tore down peoples homes, those who sell of factories, those who turn education and health into commodities” in their town.
The group started marching towards the meeting place from their organization, the Peoples Houses. They carried banners that read, “You are not welcome Tayyip”, “We don’t want no bridge or nothing!” “You can not close down Children’s Hospital in Beykoz.”
Leaflets were distributed explaining the damage the ruling JDP (Justice Development Party) and its Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has done.
The police intervened when the group started making an announcement in front of the sports hall the Prime Minister was to show up. 9 members of the Peoples Houses were arrested.
Those arrested were questioned and later released in the evening.
