While selling their newspapers on the street, a group of members of the Communist Party of Turkey was attacked on January 28th in the northern city of Ordu. As before in the previous provocations, the police, refused to intervene. One member selling newspapers had to be hospitalized after being wounded by the fascist attackers.
Next day, the TKP (Communist Party of Turkey) attempted to hold a press conference to protest the attack and to expose the police complicity. Joined by other progressive groups in the city, the TKP condemned the attack and protested the position of the security forces and above all, the governor of Ordu Kemal Yazıcıoğlu. However, this press conference too was attacked by the cops. The governor threatened the TKP members by saying, “You can do this anywhere else, but Ordu.”
An announcement made form the central general organization of the TKP said, “It is obvious with the attacks against our members in Ordu that the systematic attacks against our organization is consistently being carried out. The governor and the security forces attempted to execute yet another one of their provocations we have been seeing around the country for some time.” The statement accused the governor, “We are renewing our demand for the Ordu governor Kemal Yazıcıoğlu and the security chief whom we believe to be behind these attacks, to be recalled immediately. We would also like to express that our party will not succumb to such attacks and provocations and will continue with the struggle of the people and the working class everywhere. The governor or the security chief of this gangster system will not be able to prevent this struggle.”
