Şakirpaşa People’s House in Adana is calling for a referendum against the government’s General Health Insurance Plan-GHI called, “No to GHI! The neighborhood clinic is not adequate. We WANT A HOSPITAL! If you agree, vote yes”.
Şakirpaşa People’s House director, Esef Doğan said, “It is well-known that the government ruthlessly attacks the rights of the poor under the directives of the IMF. Especially our rights in education and healthcare are endangered. Their aim is to create an illiterate, unhealthy society. Elimination of healthcare services is introduced in the name of General Health Insurance. We demand our right to free health care. The referendum will be a response to the ruthless government.”
Doğan also explained that in this neighborhood of 100,000 many line in poverty with many mothers who can’t get their children to hospital for treatment, children who are not issued their school report cards because their parents can’t pay the required fee and babies not getting their inoculations. He said their aim is to have a fully equipped hospital built and asked everyone to participate in the referendum. The referendum will be open to signature at various locations throughout the week.
