The Adana representative of Tekstil-İş, Ms. Çiğdem Miçoğlu, gave a speech under the union’s banner saying the privatizations which were allowed at Sümerbank and SEKA (public corporations which produced affordable, quality clothes, shoes and house wares and paper) previously were being implemented now at Seydişehir Eti Aluminum plant. She challenged the Labor Minister’s promise as ‘not being convincing’ when he declared nobody would lose their jobs because of privatizations. She reminded that thousands of workers were left unemployed as a result of selling off of public enterprizes in the recent years. She demanded, “Stop the privatizations, cut all ties with the World Bank and the IMF. Let the workers rule at public corporations. Find jobs to those who lost their employment after privatizations”
Workers at the rally chanted, “The workers of Seydişehir are not alone! No to Prıvatızatıons!”
