At the request of Hilal Kaplan, the ultra-conservative writer at the pro-government newspaper Sabah, and Tevfik Emre Sarı, the news about their marriage and the publication and mention of the wedding was banned by the pro-government courts in Turkey.
The conservative, pro-Islam Sabah newspaper writer and the government-owned Turkish Radio Television Institute TRT Board member Hilal Kaplan divorced her husband Süheyb Öğüt nine months ago. However, things got nasty for the conservative, religious, and family-values woman writer when she married the ex-husband of a close friend months after her divorce. Her new husband, Tevfik Emre Sarı, is also a very conservative, family-values guy employed in the pro-government Islamic Milat newspaper. He was also the husband of a close friend of H’lal Kaplan. When the ex-wife, the ex-friend of Kaplan, started revealing the details of this “close relationship” between religious “friends,” the newlyweds could not take the jokes and criticisms of their followers. They immediately asked the government-friendly courts to intervene, and the courts, as expected, brought a news ban on the marriage and wedding of the traditionally Islamic love birds. TVs, newspapers, magazines, and social media are now banned by law from saying anything about the infamous matrimony in Turkey.
What led to the court ban of news started when Mr. Sarı’s ex-wife
Asuman Karaca wrote on her social media account, “I was warning him when he talked on Twitter and Whatsapp all day. She (Hilal Kaplan) called me sister. And I called her my older sister Hilal. So, my sister has become a wife now to my husband?”
The couple rushed to the courts to stop the chatter about their scandal wedding.
In the decision requested by Tevfik Emre Sarı and Hilal Kaplan Sarı, the court cited “personal-privacy laws” to restrict access to the marriage news. The decision read, “When the links presented to the petition are examined; and considered within the scope of freedom of expression and freedom of the press, within the framework of the basic criteria sought to be explained in the legislation and precedent judicial decisions guaranteed by the ECtHR (European Court of Human Rights), the Constitution and the Press Law No. 5187, in which they constitute a clear attack on the applicant’s honor and dignity rather than comments, criticisms and value judgments in terms of their title and content… Whereas it is understood that [the news and comments] cannot be considered within the scope of freedom of the press and thought-expression and therefore the personal-privacy rights protected by Article 9 of the Law No. 5651 on the Regulation of Publications on the Internet and the Fight Against Crimes Committed Through These Publications are violated; it has been concluded and concluded that access should be blocked,” the statement said.
Hilal Kaplan is a very controversial figure in Turkish politics. She has been accused of having a close relationship with the now-illegal Fethullah Gulen religious spy organization by praising the cult’s leader on many occasions. The cult leader, a fundamentalist scam artist Fethullah Gulen had a long friendship in business, religious organizing, and political cooperation with Turkish President Erdogan until the issue between them escalated on how to split the proceedings of Gulen’s school empire and which Turkish State departments were to be handed over to Gulen. Gulen has not run for office and has never been elected. On July 15th, 2016, an attempt to topple the government occurred, and Erdogan, surviving the uprising, accused his lifelong friend Gulen of organizing the coup. He is an elementary school graduate living in the US, protected by the CIA and state officials. Gulen’s private charter schools enjoy tremendous gifts from government officials in the US and tax breaks totaling hundreds of millions of dollars.
