In Lice, 14-year-old Y.D. identified the three policemen who kidnapped and tortured him from their photos, one of whom was a supervisor. After nationwide public outcry, the police were detained
Y.D. (14), in the town of Lice, was summoned to the Gendarmerie Command for the identification of his assailants. Identification through photographs was part of the investigation into the abduction and torture of Y.D., who was stopped and detained by police on March 21 in the Lice district of Diyarbakır on March 21 while returning home with a 10-year-old friend.
According to Yeni Hayat’s report, the boy’s family reported that Y.D., who went to the Lice Gendarmerie Command for photo identification, identified the three policemen who tortured him in the presence of the prosecutor without his lawyer.
On the other hand, after the photographic diagnosis, it was reported that the three police officers, one of whom was a supervisor, were detained in Ankara. Diyarbakır Bar Association President Nahit Eren shared a post on the subject on his Twitter account. Eren said, “In the investigation initiated against five policemen related to the torture and ill-treatment of the 14-year-old Y.D. in Lice, two policemen were detained in Lice district, and three policemen were detained in Ankara. The three policemen had obtained a medical leave to get out of town after the investigation was started on the tortured boy. We are following the investigation process.”
Two days ago, the boy was found tied and injured in the marshland near a field. He was taken to a hospital and reported that police had stopped and taken him to the field because he was wearing the local, traditional Kurdish outfit. There he was forced to state he was a Turk and not a Kurd and to swear at Kurds. He was ordered to memorize the national anthem of the Turks, and if he didn’t, the police would come to his home and put a bullet in his head. He was beaten severely during this incident.
In the final months leading to the elections on May 14th, the Turkish state has increased its attacks on the Kurdish minority. The HDP opposition party represents the Kurds and, despite all government efforts, has refused to support the Erdogan regime. The ruling right-wing, Islamic Erdogan regime is now trying to shut down the Kurdish party before the elections.
