We don’t accept an electricity price hike that makes private companies rich and transfers what’s in the pockets of the people to a handful of bosses. We don’t accept bills that are a third of our monthly paycheck.
Action Against Energy Price Hikes in Antep: “The Power Bill is Electrocuting us!”
In the Southeastern province of Gaziantep, the United Textile, Weaving, and Leather Workers Union (Birtek-Sen) took action in Balıklı Park to protest the recent increases in energy prices.
In Gaziantep, the United Textile, Weaving and Leather Workers’ Union (Birtek-Sen) took to the street in Balıklı Park to protest the recent increases in energy prices of electricity, natural gas used in heating and industry, and gas and diesel. Birtek-Sen Chairman Mehmet Turkmen read the press release at the rally, which was attended by Baspinar OSB workers.
Workers’ rights hijacked
The statement of the union targeted the increases other than energy price hikes and said the latest utility bills stunned people. Turkmen stated that the workers were constantly subjected to rights violations during the pandemic and that the wages of the workers were cut during the power outage. Noting that the price of each crisis is always placed on the backs of workers, Turkmen stated that the burden of workers increases with the price hikes announced by the state.
“We do not accept utility invoices that are one-third of our monthly”
The statement went on to point out that with so many rights violations, exorbitant increases were made to all basic needs at the same time. “We do not accept bills that are a third of our monthly wages,” the workers said at the end of the statement.
We don’t accept an electricity price hike that makes private companies rich and transfers what’s in the pockets of the people to a handful of bosses. We don’t accept bills that are a third of our monthly paycheck. We do not accept the cost of hunger that you impose on us. We don’t accept the low rate hike that’s causing us to get crushed below inflation. We don’t accept hunger or misery. We do not accept the press of the bosses, the media who are the spokespersons of the bosses. We reject the media who insult the workers seeking their right not to be laid off by the bosses. We don’t accept news people who are not journalists, but merchants.
Reverse the increases in consumer goods, especially the electricity price hikes. Raise wages to a decent level for us to live humanely.
